Hong Kong airport scenery
Hong Kong International Airport is world's fifth busiest international passenger airport and firmly cements Hong Kong's position as an aviation hub.
The passenger terminal is perhaps the world's largest enclosed space and it is certainly one of the most energy efficient buildings yet created.
Although awe inspiring, the terminal's interior is not overwhelming. Reflected sunlight,
a soaring arched roof and unobtrusive air-conditioning create a comfortable and natural ambience all year round.
Despite its vast size, the terminal building is surprisingly easy to negotiate, as the needs of travellers were carefully considered during all design phases.
The pedestrian flow for departures and arrivals is clearly defined so that all procedures are trouble free and pleasurable. Where changes of level are unavoidable,
ramps, lifts and escalators are provided. Signage is prominent and internationally accepted icons are used wherever possible as an aid to clear communication.
The Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) is just 34 km / 21 miles south-west of the centre of Hong Kong.
This international airport offers efficient service and the facilities that are expected at modern airports by today's traveller.
Hong Kong is also one of the most active worldwide air cargo operation with an average of more than 600 aircraft take off and land every day.
Near 60 scheduled passenger carriers and 15 all-cargo operators link Hong Kong with more than 140 locations round the world. Different airlines have their base in Honk Kong (not only Cathay Pacific) and some of the most important airlines
with regular scheduled flights to and from Hong Kong include AmericanAirlines, British Airways, Continental, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Qantas, Northwest, Singapore Airlines and many more.
The airport terminal is also well designed to accommodate the Airbus 380, the world's largest commercial plane, due to begin test flights in 2005.
