The airport is one of Greece's busiest major island airports. Especially during the summer months the airport capacity is brought to a maximum. There is no ILS for landing but two VORDME approaches for each runway. Ippokratis airport is on elevated land plane and has other island terrain rising from the South and North on runways 32 & 14 final approach stages. Kalimnos island from the north (well known for its sponge extracting community) has even a landing strip if you have HSP Base scenery installed. Nisiros island from the south requires caution since the VOR DME procedure brings aircraft right above its mountain peak. Most common winds in Kos are from the North-Northwest.

The FS2004 LGKO scenery enhances the airport with custom objects in further detail beyond the basic "HSP Base scenery". In both cases, the airport has been modified for correct location and physical characteristics according to DAFIF.
