Hello everyone and a happy new year to you all!
I want to share with you some of the exciting plans Orbx has for 2011 and what to expect from the team this year.
2010 was a record year for us, both in terms of the number of products released and also sales volume. Orbx continues to gain strength and a strong reputation for quality products, and even though we released eight new addons in Nov-Dec, it did not come at the expense of quality, since most of those project lifecycles were between 6-18 months.
Innovation
We firmly believe that FSX still has not reached its prime, with much room for continued innovation and even more detail and immersion possible, if you can believe that! So this year you'll see continued innovation in new tech and the refinement of existing tech introduced in 2010:
- Updated PeopleFlow libraries with even more exciting and varied animations (due soon)
- Most airports updated to add TextureFlow and PeopleFlow tech and the new static libraries
- Brand new systems added to the Lancair for interior and exterior lighting, using new tech not seen before
- New GA aircraft models for a greatly expanded GA traffic experience in our freeware traffic addon
- Hyper-detailed ground environments including some amazing new techniques usually seen in Call of Duty etc.
An unannounced GA airfield project using hyper-detailed ground imagery and particle system grass

Regions Expansion
We're slowly inching our way across North America and of course, making excellent progress on New Zealand South Island which is currently not far from the first beta build. The FTX regions are the 'backbone' of all that we do, and we have a very dedicated and skilled regions team who are getting faster, smarter and better with each new region being released. So this year expect Central Rocky Mountains (CRM), NZ South Island (NZSI) and ~possibly~ Southern Rocky Mountains (SRM)
Who's looking forward to flights from say, Salt Lake City to Ketchikan across millions of square miles of FTX goodness?
Orbx FTX North America expansion
Airports
We have at least six new airports currently in production for Australia including YBAS, YBTH, YMEN, YMMB, YBRK and YWOL and over ten airports in production for North America including OS9, 74S, S43, KVBS, PAKT, W16, KCMW(Fictional), KPDX, 2W3, 1WA6 and a bunch more!
Aircraft
We have the Jabiru J230 in production (late modeling stage) and also the Victa Airtourer which has undergone major modeling surgery and is looking superb in the sim now. Expect at least one of those to be released this year.
Freeware
We have Portland City almost complete, some updates to the AU Traffic 3.x and also the RTM release of YLIL V2.0. We'll also be releasing more freeware through the year and of course will support the fantastic OZx team.
Of course, there's lots of unnannounced stuff happening in the background (we need to keep some surprises in store eh?) and we'll continue to introduce new tech to solve FSX limitations.
We're looking forward to an unbelievably exciting 2011 - are you?

The Orbx PNW Grand Tour - Will be complete by end of 2011
The obvious flight which we want all our members to enjoy is what I'm calling the "Orbx PNW Grand Tour". This is designed to hop from all the Orbx freeware and payware airports in Washington State within the space of 3-4 hours (or longer) in a single session. Right now, it's still a dream because we have not finished all the airports in the tour, but by the end of 2011 it will be reality.
Imagine taking off from KHQM and then landing at a payware or payware-quality airport for each stop? When we get there I will be satisfied that Orbx has gone some way towards creating the bush flyer's dream.
Here is the flight plan (bold green airports now available, blue ones not far away, purple ones in development):
KHQM Bowerman
KCMW Cushman Meadows
2S1 Vashon Island
2W3 Swanson
1WA6 Fall City
W16 Monroe Firstar
S43 Harvey Field
1S2 Darrington Muni
3W5 Concrete Muni
WA56 Israel's Farm
KVBS Skagit Muni
74S Anacortes
KORS Orcas Island
OS9 Jefferson County
2WA1 Diamond Point
KW28 Sequim
KHQM Bowerman
A $100 hamburger 17-hop flight across some of the world's most beautiful flying country. Should be reality by end of this year or early next. I do realise with this post that I have let the cat out of the bag with some of our projects, but that's half the fun
