You gotta see that from a different point of view.
I heard Americans and Englishmen and also some Kiwis speaking German. The same delight, entertainmentwise ....... :D

A very serious case of Denglish... :umfall:

Oh my god!

I just coludn't watch more than 10 secs of one of these videos (Oettinger/Westerwelle), after having spent 5 months with the kiwis it's just absolutely awful hearing that "denglish" :punk:
I got the same problem at school, it actually seems to be normal and a lot of Germans really speak like that I think, but I just can't stand it!

In NZ, if I met somebody and they were talking to me, I could tell in like 5 seconds if they were German or not
But if you actually work in politics and got to speak English a lot, you should really be able to pronounce it properly.

"not able to speak german properly" would have been sufficient as well :P :weg:

The nice thing about English is, that it's very flexible and lends itself to some great uses like wordplays or higher art forms like subtle foul language through the use of ambiguity... :D
Do the Brits also have problems with so-called native speakers not being able to speak their own language properly? Because the german-speaking countries are full of such people.

My "favourite" german misspelling is "Standart", it really gets my blood pressure going. Must be the same for the English people when they see guys not being able to distinguish between "their" and "there".

Depends on what a "Native Speaker" exactly is in your eyes?
My Native Speaker was my German Teacher, he was from Stuttgart (quite sure he was) and did actually speak perfect english too.

12

Dienstag, 8. Februar 2011, 00:23

Here in the german-speaking region of Europe, we have a quite high number of people who have problems with german grammar and vocabulary despite the fact that it actually is their first or native language. This phenomenon can be observed almost everywhere, be it newspapers produced by "professional" journalists aided by spellchecking software or even some paragraphs of law books.

Does this also hold true for the english-speaking countries? :hm:

After going through the "Oettinger clip again and again, I finally came to the conclusion, that he is not only
a poor english spearker, but, wich is almost worse: At the moment he started his speech, his eyes fell for the
very first time on the script that lay before him on the desk. He had neither worked on it himselfes, nor has he
even had the slightest glance on beforehand.
I other words, he didn't only have a hard time in "how", nope, he especially had a hard time on "what". That is,
from my point of view, an absolute "no go" for someone in his position.
I did, as most of you did to, laugh out loud when I first saw this tape a couple of month ago. But hey, I am not
able to laugh on this one anymore...

Yep, agreed ...

Classy case of "misunderestimating" himself. :D

Oettinger is a laughing stock, even worse than Westerwave and that should be SOME acomplishment.

"Frastanz, 18 July 2007

Dear Alistar!

Because of my retirement of the Austrian Government at the beginning of the year I got a lot of inquiries responding different offers concerning consulting-contracts for Austrian firms as well as international firms in order to deploy all my international contacts and beyond of this to use my friendly relations in so many regions.

In respect of the 'handshake' with a very good friend who is leading a big tourism company, I didn't go after this and I declined a lot of inquiries. Now, after considerable time, I feel 'the world in Vorarlberg is too small' and I considered starting my own business in consulting and lobbying.

Because of that I'm going on to establish relations in consulting - that's why I apply to you, my 'long-time friend.' I intend to do project-related activities limited in time as well as I would like to innovate my long and positive experiences, my 'know-how', all my previous experiences - commercial and political - in supervisory boards and advisory boards etc.

Therefore I accepted with pleasure the election in the supervisory board in one of the most famous Austrian firms - the RHI-group (world market leader in refractory products, quoted).

If you know about any area of operation for myself, where I am able to intend all my experiences and my know-how, please let me know, I am available anytime for further information.

At this time the most important thing for me is that our good contacts will be upright furthermore!

I wish you and your team all the best.

With kindest regards"

(Unterschrift von Hubert Gorbach)

Gorbach got slapped pretty bad for this letter - not that he didn't deserve it. But it really is actually painful to read. :pinch:
Is it me or do many of those sentences just not make any sense at all? But in good ol' Austrian tradition, we obviously have to make him an EU politician and send him abroad, where his abundant language skills might be very helpful and could do our country's reputation some good. :weg:
You know it is our way. Never let a politician do a job he's qualified for. :whistling:

Two strangers meet in London. They start a conversation but they have to use their dictionary quite often.

A: "Hello, Sir! How goes it you?"

B: "Oh, thank you for the afterquestion."

B: "Oh, yes, I will too go. I must become my draught to Bristol. Auf Wiedersehen!"

A: "Nanu, sie sind Deutscher?"

B: "Ja, sie auch? Das wundert mich aber. Ihr Englisch ist so hervorragend, dass ich es gar nicht bemerkt hatte..."
